WAIRARAPA HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING
The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held yesterday afternoon, there being present Messrs E. G. Eton (chairman), T. Moss, H. Cornelius, S. Bolton, D. Crewe, R. F. Bennett, W. Moore, F. Kummer, J. C. Ewington, R. Beetliam, H. Morrison, D. Spesdy, and A. D. McLeod.
Leave of absence was granted to Messrs W. Fisher and J. W. Murray. ! The Treasurer reported a balance I at last meeting of £3381 Os 9d ; contributions from local bodies, etc., for the month, £362 lis; total £3743 lis 9d. The expenditure for the month was £135 lis 2d, leaving a credit balance at date of £3608 0s 7d. The distribution of balances was as follows: Ordinary maintenance account, £353 15s 9d ; infectious diseases account, £293 3s 4d; building account, £2461 Is Gd. Dr Valintine. acknowledged .the vote of sympathy in his bereavement which had been passed by the Board. The Greytown Hospital Committee notified what had been done in regard to the old hospital building. [ Dr Valintine asked that the ! Board guarantee the sum of £1 per | week for the maintenance of a man suffering from an incurable disease, who was not a fit subject for the hospital.—On the motion of Cr Moss, it was decided to guarantee the £1 per week asked for. The Secretary of the Department of Health and Tourists wrote, intimating that it had been decided that in future no free patients would be admitted to the sanatoria of the Dominion. He also asked if the Board was willing to enter into a contract under the Act for the maintenance of consumptive per-, sons who might be sent to the sanatoria. The cost would be 30s per week.—Mr, Crewe .moved that the. matter he referred "to the Finance. 'Committee for a report.—MrV Bennett seconded. The chairman thought the matter might be dealt, with at this meeting. He like to know what the Department meant by a Bolton was of opinion that they should have a guarantee that any patients ' they might send to a sanatorium would be admitted. —Mr Moss moved as an amendment that the offer o£ the Department to accept patients at 30s per week be accepted.—Mr Kummer seconded the amendment.—After discussion, the amendment was lost on the voices, and the resolution was declared carried. A letter from the Atlas Fire Insurance Co., re fire risk on the Greytown Hospital, was referred to the Greytown Hospital Committee. Three letters were received from the Clerk to the Eketahuna County Council, in reference to a family of children which were left uncaredfor. Mr Stuart Kent-Johnston wrote, accepting the position of member of the Greytown Hospital Committee. The solicitor to the Board advised that it was quite :.ompetent for the Board to make a contribution to Mother Mary Joseph Aubert's Home for the maintenance of a patient.— On the motion of Mr Moss, it was decided that the sum of £4 per month be voted for the maintenance of the patient in question. An offer was received from a local business man to take a boy from the Weraroa Home, whose father lives in #he district, and to teach him a trade.—lt was decided to accept the offer, and write the manager of the Home on the subject. The Secretary for Education forwarded certain information concerning children which have been committed to the Industrial School. ' The report of the meeting of the Finance and By-laws Committees, held on August 23rd. was read. It was decided to recommend that the model by-laws forwarded by the In-spector-General be adopted in so far as they apply to the various institutions under the control of the Board. The chairman stated that the draft by-laws, as revised, would be in the hands of members before next meeting. Accounts amounting to £lO5 13s lOd were passed for payment. Supplies were voted as follows : Masterton Hospital, £721 ss; Mas- ' terton Benevolent Society, £195; ! South Wairarapa Hospital, £343 17 s 6d; Pahiatua Hospital, £400; total, i £1660 2s 6d. / i Permission was granted the South i Wairarapa Committee to expend a ' sum of £35 in putting the old Grey- I T town Hospital in tenantable oondi- , tion. It was pointed out by Mr ! Moore that, by the expenditure of I £BS, the Committee had how a building worth £220. Oil the motion of Mr Crewe, seconded by Mr Bennett, it was decided that a visiting committee of six (two from Masterton, two from north of Masterton, and two from the south), with the chairman, cxofficio, be appointed to deal with special subjects and report to the Board each month.
