DRAINAGE CONNECTIONS.
A good deal of capital has been made, by opponents of the drainage scheme, out of the fact that the whole cost of connecting with the sewage mains will have to be borne by householders. It is satisfactory to note, therefore, that the Mayor has now discovered that the Borough Council has power to construct drains upon private property, and to take paymest ©f its costs by in- j stahnents. This opinion is supported by the Borough Solicitor. As
the Mayor has given an assurance that the Council will, where necessary, exercise this power, there should no longer be an objection to the drainage scheme, on the score that private individuals will be called upon to expend sums of money in making connections which I they may not be able to afford.
