THE LICENSING CASE.

The strictures passed by His Honor i Mr Justice Edwards upon those responsible for the licensing appeal case, heard in Masterton this week, have been wrongly directed at the Sergeant of Police who instituted the original proceedings. The Sergeant may, or may not have acted l discreetly in entering the prosecution. His action seems, at anyrate, to have met with the approval of the Law Officers of the Crown. The responsibility for the appeal case rested entirely with the Law Officers, and it is .manifestly unfair to blame the police officials for proceedings over .which they had k no control.
