HOSPITAL FINANCES.

The Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board is very properly exercising a vigilant watch over its finances. Although it has, delegated some of its administrative powers to Committees, *it is none the less responsible to the people for > the expenditure of the moneys with which it is entrusted. So long as this re- j sponsibility is fully appreciated, the I public will have no cause for com- j plaint. It seems somewhat strange, however, that so early in its career the Board should be apprehensive concerning the expenditure of Committees set up by itself. If the J Board cannot trust these Commit- { tees, upon which it is directly represented, it should resolve upon transacting the whole of the administrative work itself.
