THE SHEARERS' DISPUTE.
WILL THERE BE A DOMINION AWARD?
A prominent member of the Masterton branch of the Shearers' Union, discussing the position of affairs in connection with the shearers' dispute with a representative of the Age yesterday, stated that shearers were patiently awaiting the decision of the conference of the three Conciliation Commissioners, to be held in Chris tchurcb. These Commissioners, he said, would probably make a recommendation to Arbitration Court upon which a Dominion award would be based. The Masterton shearer could not yaile understand how a Dominion award was possible under existing condition?. Fe was hopeful, j however, that a geneial award of 20s per hundred for shearing would be made. He thought the shearers would be satisfied if the wages of shed hands were increased to 35s per week. "If the award goeß aeainst us," he said, smilingly, "we have the right of rafusing to work."
