OUR REVENUES.

The statement made to the House of Representatives by the Prime Minister yesterday concerning the revenues of the Dominion, is "bf a most satisfactory character. ' In almost every Department of State there have been substantial increases. These may be attributed to two causes:— (1.) The passing of the financial crisis ; and (2) the development of our internal resources as the result of favourable markets. The substantial increase in Customs is I due in a measure to merchants replenishing the stocks which were diminished at the time of the crisis last year. The swelling of the revenue of the railways is a result of the increased output of the soil. The latter is the most gratifying feature of the statement. The Minister may now see his way clear to do something for the country in return for what the country has done for him.
