MASTERTON RACING CLUB.
SPECIAL MEETING OF STEWARDS.
A special meeting of Stewards of the Masterton Racing Club was held yesterday afternoon. There was a full attendance; and the chair was occupied by Mr C. F. Valldnce.
Letters were received from Messrs J. H. Poll ,ck. Ulic Shannon, G. Morse, H. Coyla, and J. E. Henrys in reference to the handicapping for the Club.—After some discussion, it was decided that Mr J, H, Pollock be re appointed handicapper. Mr Thos. Cameron wrote, offering to again act as starter for the Club. Mr R. Skipwortb, of Wellington, also offered his services in this capacity, stating that although he had not previously acted as starter, he had had considerable experience as owner and trainer. —On the motion of Mr Ma.cara, it was decided to reappoint Mr Camersn on Uu same terms as last year.
Mr W. H. Hartgill, who had been re-appointed judge, stated that, unless the Club had a successful sta-" son, he would make a donation fun his fee to assist its finances. [t was decided, un the motion of Mr Pownall, that the Wellington Racine Club be advised that this Club has no objection to a trainer's license granted to T. McCann, and, if necessary, will recommend the issue of such a license. The question of dealing with trainers' and jockeys' licenses was discussed. It had previously been decided that all such applications be dealt with by a sub-committee, but several members expressed the | opinion that the general body of .Stewards should deal with them. Mr 0. C. Oooper pointed out that the Racing Conference had urged the importance of great care being exercised in this matter, —It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Pownall, that tha Special Committee recommend to the Wellington Racing Club any license it may thiiik fit, reserving doubtful cases for the Stewards.
A communication from the Secretary of the Wellington Racing Club, enclosing minutes of a meeting of delegates from the Wellington and surrounding district Clubs, at which the question of passes, etc., was dealt with, was referred to the ordinary maeting. The programme for the forthcoming meeting, which had been prepared by the Programme Committee, was approved, with slight amendment.
