EDUCATION CONFERENCE.
The subjects set down for discussion at the Conference of Education Boards, to be held in Wellington next week, "are as numerous as they are varied. This will be the fourth educational conference that has been held in Wellington during the past six months. The Boards are, of course, charged with the administration of the affairs of the primary schools, subject to Departmental control. Their jurisdiction and responsibilities are not what they used to be. ; The tendency has been to cetitralise education work, and to make, all branches subordinate to the will of the Minister and his UnderSecretary. Some plain speaking will be indulged in by the delegates to the approaching conference, the Minister will px-obably be deputarfcionised, and the delegates will return to their homes happy in the knowledge that they have done—nothing!
