BOY IMMIGRANTS.

A proposal was recently made by a visitor from the Old Country to introduce to New Zealand a number of boy immigrants for farm labour. The proposal did not meet with a cordial reception, for the very good reason that the class of boys it was proposed to bring to the Dominion was not what was wanted. Lord Rosebery, who is one of the greatest Imperialists of Great Britain recognises that it is bad business to send to the Colonies the " wastrels " of the Mother Country, for they do not inspire a Colonial's respect for J the national character. He suggests specialisation among, the boys attending the primary schools, so that those who'have not the "flexibility of adaptation " may be moulded in such a way that they would readily assimilate the new atmosphere of the overseas' possessions. Lord Rosebery can rest assured that there are great opportunities in New Zealand for the surplus of England's population, so long as it is made of the right stuff.
