AMUSEMENTS.

TOyVN HALL PICTURES,

The new programme which was presented at the Town Hall last evening unfolded some cf the most delightful scenery and brilliant drama that a Masterton audience has been privileged to witness. The production of the gorgeous Venetian play, "Othello," with its superb mounting and sublime acting was worth going a long way to see. The tour through beautiful Japan, with the coloured representation of Yokohama, Tokio, and the exquisite internal scenery of "the land of midnight sun," was a splendid piece of kinematographic work. By special request of several Norwegian residents, a film was put on describing a trip through Norway. This was most interesting, and afforded an excellent idea of the resources and scenery of Scandinavia. The dramatic numbers were cleverly produced, and the comic items were well up to the standard. The present programme will be shown for a last time to-night, and there will be an entire change to morrow, when some fresh novelties will be introduced. Photographs for the children's beauty competition are coming in freely. THE POPULAK PICTURES. The inclemency of the weather did net prevent the public patronising th.e Popular Picture entertainment in the Foresters' HaM. Messrs Thompson and Payne spare no effort to provide their patrons with a bill of fare to suit the most fßtidious 'tastes, and their success in this ' direction was plainly seen last even ing when the programme met with a reception which was in the highest degree flattering "Star" films were the order of the evening, dramatic subjects being in good supply. Among these three stood out prominently, "Capital versus Labour," "The Man in the Mirror," and "The Eleventh Hour", "Incidents in the Life of the late King Edward V 11.," i "Madam on the Tight Rope," "Comi.bat between Burglars," and a host ! of comics, provided a splendid entertainment. This evening, a number | of additional films will be shown.
