FOOTBALL NOTES.

WAIRARAPA RUGBY ONION. A meeting of the Management Committee of the Wairarapa Rugby Union was held at Carterton on Saturday evening, Mr B. Chapman in the chair. A letter was received from the secretary of the Red Star Club, drawing attention to the hardship imposed upon that Club's senior team in having to play all its fixtures in the third round away from home, and asked the Union to pay the drag fare for one match, Attention was drawn to the seriouß results the matter. cf playing so few senior matches in Mastei'ton 'would have in regard to the game in the town, and the loss the Union would sustain in the ! matter of gate money. It was pointed cut that better "gatts" were ob- ] tained in Masterton than elsewhere in (he Wairarapa, and as hockey | was obtaining such a strong hold the football public in that town should be better catered for in the matter of senior matches. It was decided that the drag fare of the team be paid for one match this stason, and also that it be a recommendation to the annual meeting that each team have a home match in each round.

Coirespondence was received from the Otago Union, suggesting September Bth for a match with Wairarapp, and from Canterbury, notifying that they would play Wairarapa on July 15tb., when on their North ■ ern tour. The Southland Union also stated that they intended to tour this season, but had not decided on the date of the Wairarapa match yet. It was decided to write end ask the Manawatu Union to play their return match here early in August. Two Greytown junior plajers applied for transfers to the Liberal club. It was decided not to grant the transfers, and also to write to clubs notifying them that no more transfers would be grantad this season.

It was decided to pipy a North v. South match at Masterton this year, the Red Sart and Gladstone clubs to play North and Carterton and Grey town South.

The secretary was instructed to write to the Rangitikei Union and ascertain what percentage of gate money would be available if Wairarapa played them at Marton on their proposed Northern tour. , A vote of condolence was passed to the relatives of the late Mr A. Armstrong, the deceased gentleman at one time being an official of the union. FIXTURES. ™ The following third-class fixtures were drawn up, the Masterton club having withdrawn its team: July 16th.— Red Star v. Dalefield, at Masterton.. Carterton a bye. July 23rd.—Carterton v. Red Star, at Carterton, Dalefield a bye. July 30th.—Dalefield v. Carterton, at Dalefield, Red fatar a bye.

There will be no Rugby Union fixtures on next Saturday, the day being reserved.for the Friendly Societies' seven-a-side tournament on the Showgrounds, Masterton. •As the majority ofjhe players taking pari; in the tournament are already playing in cup matches, the Union fixed rto events for the coming Saturday, so as to allow the players to represent their'respective Societies.
