HOW IT ORIGINATED.

At the Court of Enquiry into the fire on the steamer Ir.dradevi, Mr Weatherill, surveyor, expressed the opinion that the tire originated in the 'tween decks forward on the starboard side. ! Captain Wilkicj stated they began discharging on the morning of Jusie 21st, and there was no sign of fire at 11 p.m. and no chance of a man getting in or out except by the door in the bulkhead dividing the lorecastle from the main deck. An examiution after the fire showed that it originated in the vicinity of the paint locker, but there was nothirg to show that the fire came from (he locker. He estimated the damage to the steamer at £B,OOO, exclusive of the damage to the cargo. The inquiry was adjourned till Monday.
