At the National Rifle Association meeting at Bisley the Empire Match is being fired- There are stidng winds and raib. FIRST STAGE. BRITAIN IN THE LEAU. In the first stage Ihe scores were: Britain 1.139 Australia 1,136 Canada 1,128 TERRIFIC RAINSTORM. GREAT BRITAIN WINS THE EMPIRE MATCH. Received July 4, 12.40 a.m. LONDON, July 3.
A terrific rainstorm swept the ranges when the firing was on at the nine hundred yards' range. There was also a heavy rain squall during the firing at the yards, which disconcerted the Overseas riflemen, Boyd missing five limes at 900 yards. Great Britain won the Empire Match with 2,177; Canada, 2,105; Australia, 2,040; India, 1,973; Singapore, 1,972.
Major Paine, commanding the Australians, hoped the British would defend the trophy in Australia next year. He declared that tne rainstorm destroyed the colonials' chances.
