In the House of Commons, the Prime Minister, Mr Asquith, said that the later stages of the Budget might be taken in the autumn session.
Newspaper comments suggest that Mr Asquith wishes to retain the Nationalists' allegiance until the Lords' veto question assumes a more definite shape. This week rumours foreshadow the possibility of the Constitutional Conference ending in failure. Irish newspapers threaten strenuous opposition to the whisky duties. PENSIONS TO COST £14,000,000.
