MASTERTON PARLIAMENTARY DEBATING SOCIETY.

A large crowd of 'visitors, among which the fair sex predominated, filled the "galleries" at the meeting of the Masteiton Parliamentary Debating Society on Monday night, when the petition to allow women to sit in Parliament was discussed. The Petitions Committee recommended the petition to the favourable consideration uf the Government. Seven speakers championed the cause of the ladies, and six opposed the franchise being extended to women. At 9.15 the "House" resolved to receive the recommendation of the committee. When the "galleries" were emptied Mr Hornsby delivered a lecture on Parliamentary procedure to the member?, answered several questions asked- by members. He criticised several of the speeches made, and gave plenty of helpful advice to the youne speakers. Next Monday night the "House" will resolve itself into a committee to discuss the Land Bill. It is anticipated that there will be a trial of strength between the Government and Opposition forces, and every member is required to be in bis place at 7.45, in view of a "crisis."
