PERIL OF A TRAIN.
A FIEKDISH ACT. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright. Received June 10, 10.15 a.m. Melbourne, June 10. A deliberate attempt was made to djraila train at Clifton Ilill, three miles north-east of Melbourne. On one rail a piece of iron and on ths other a piece of hardwood had been carefully fixed to fit into the joints between the two rails, the idea being that the wheels of the train should run up the wedges and drop off. The weight of the engine, how-' ever, displaced the wedges. Had the attempt proved successful, the train would have dropped 200 ft over an emoankment upon the houses bslow.
