GREAT SOLDIER.
DEATH IN IRELAND. United Press Association—By Bleetno Telegraph Copyright. Received June 8, 9.40 a.m. LONDON, June 8. The death is announced of General Sir William Butler, the cause being heart disease. Tne general died at Tipperary, Ireland. Born in 1838, William Francis Butler joined ttie 69th Regiment in his twentieth year. He had an exceptionally fine record of service. He was in Canada during the Red River Expedition; in Ashanti, where his services received special recognition in Sir Garnet Wolseley's despatches; he was in South Africa during the Zulu War; and ha did magnificent work h the Egyptian War, 1882, and in the lat?r Soudan campaign. Everywhere and in every capacity he showed brilliant ability. Tbe recull of Sir William.Builer was one of the many disastrous blunders made by the British Government in South Africa.
