TOWN HALL PICTURES

OPENING TO-NIGHT.

The Town Hall Pictures, specialiy selected by Mr T. J. West, will be shown for the first time in Maslerton to-night. The proprietary has spared neither trouble nor expense in securing the most up-to-date machinery, and experienced operators, mechanists, and musicians will be employed. The programme to be submitted is varied ar.d attractive. The screen covers the full width of the large stage; and the projecting apparatus is such that the pictures will assume proportions seldom seen in the Dominion. The Boy Scout film is ot great length, and shows the progress made in the national military movement among the youth of the Old Country. By special permission of the King of Italy, a view will be shown of the valuable Cassera Park. The picture of the German National Zoo will be interest'ng and instructive,whilst the United States drama, "In the Nick o* Time." will afford 4he theatregoer a master-piec?- of dramatic art. The comic element is, in every instance pure comedy. The price of admission will be sixpence, a shilling and eighteen-pence.

THOMPSON—PAYNE PICTURES. The Foresters' Hall was packed last night to witness the excellent programme presented. "Faust," which is the first of a series of grand opera films, was shown in full detail from stait to finish.Old Faust, as the Btory goes, pines for youth, wealth and love, and in return for these virtues sells his soul to the Devi!. Satan nses his powers and transforms Fau r t into a handsome youth, and provides him with unbounded wealth. The devil astonishes the villagers with his powers of necromancy, and subsequently Faust meets Marguerite and falla in love with her. To assist him in winning her love, the devil provides the jewels which finally prove the trusting girl's undoiner. Marguerite becomes insane, and kills her child. Her brother Valentine returns from the wars and fights a duel with Faust. Valentine is killed, Marguerite dies, and the r+evil finally chims Faust for his'own. To-°ight is the last opportunity of j viewing this series.
