DEATHS AT FOOTBALL MATCH.

A PLAYER'S FATHER SUCCUMBS. By Telegraph-—Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 29. A sad fatality occurrel on iho Athletic Park yesterday afternoon, during the interval between the first and second spells of the Poneke—St. Jarr.es' match, Mr Frederick Robert Hills, residing in Daniel Street, and employed by Messrs Prcuse's Lumber Company, dropped dead. Ilia son was playing for St. James, and was not aware of the fatality until he came out from the dressing room and saw the body of his father being carried across the field on a stretcher. Just when the second spell was about to commence Mrs Hills was found sitting in the grandstand, and she was informed of the death of her husband. The fatality csst quite a gloom over the match. The news spread very quietly amongst the spectators, who must have numbered six thousand or more, and the suggestion was made that the match should be abandoned. It was deemed advisable, however, to go on. As soon as the doctors had pronounced life extinct, the body was removed to the residence of the de ceased. The cause of death has heen certified as heart failure. ANOTHEK SUDDEN DEATH. By Telegraph—Press Association. PALMBRSTON N., May 29. An elderly mar, named Fiyger, a well-known resident of Feildmg.. • dropped dead while watching a football match on Saturday between a team from Feilding ar,d one- from Palmerston. Death is staled to have been due to apoplexy.
