CAPETOWN, May 21.

Lord and Lady Selborne were accorded a striking farewell at Capetow by the new Governor-General, Lord Gladstone, by the Premiers of Cape Colony, Transvaal, Natal, and Orange River Colony, and by many politicians and citizens. They sailed for England by the Union-Castle liner Armadale Castle.

The Capetown papers pay a tribute to Lord Selborne's unfailing impartiality as High Commissioner, and declare that he has striven to obliter ate racial prejudices and divisions.

CAPETOWN, May 21. Lord Gladstone, the new GovernorGeneral, has been sworn in at Government House. Informal conferences are proceeding in Capetown between various Sv.ith African Ministers, it is expected thnt Lord Gladstone will confer with the leaders tc-dsy. General Botha has been sent for.

The Chronicle's Johannesburg correspondent says the Cabinet will include Mr Merriman, as Treasurer, Mr Fischer, as Minister of Education, Mr Smuts, as Colonial Secretary, Mr Hertzog, as Attorney General, Mr H. C. Hull, Minister ot Railways, aid Mr Saur. as Native Commissioner.
