THE MURDER OF BOUTROS.
A SENSATIONAL APPEAL

A sensation has been caused in Egypt by an announcement that the Mufti has addressed a declaration to Wardari's three judged, wherein he refused to sanction the death sentence for three reasons, viz. (1), the revolver wounds were outside Mahommed's definition of murder; (2), the victim was a Christian, and (3), Boutrps' relatives did not prosecute. The Mufti's appeal to Mahommedan passions directly threatens ttie Copts. Wardani's appeal will be heard on June sth.
(The Copts are the Jacobite Christ tians of Egypt, who conduct their religious services in the Coptic language. The Turkish Grand Mufti, or Shiekh-ul-Islam, is the head of the great corporation of TJlema, the interpreters of the Koran, by whose decisions when written down, the Cadis ha-Je to judge. The chief of the Ulema is little less powerful than the Grand Vizier.
