CARTERTON NEWS.

. (Own Correspondent.) Saturday. A very enjoyable afternoon tea was given this week by Mrs C, Fairbrother, of Dalefield, in honour of Miss Scott, of the Carterton fligh School teaching staff, who is leaving on Thursday next The gathering included a number of old pupils, and a very pleasant time was spent. Miss Scott received many surprise packets, which, when opened, turned out to be dainty and useful articles. A presentaion wa3 made at the local District hii?h School yesterday afternoon to Miss Scott, as a token of esteem on the occasion of her approaching departure. Mr A. M. Burns, headmaster, on behalf of tiie stnior scholars presented Miss Scott with a handsome salad bowl, and Mr Miller, on behalf of the junior pupils, handed her a handsonie travelling rug with her initials en. Both gifts were acknowledged by Miss Seoth

Mrs J. T M. Hornsby, who has be<-tl visiting Dunedin for the benefit, a her health, returned home to-day. The April records of the Dalefield Cow Testing Association show that the]sarae herds are first and second as the previous month, viz., No. 14 and No. 10. The first gave au average of 807lbs milk, 425 test, and 34.35 lbs butter fat The second gave 765 lbs milk, 44.1 test and 33.74bs butter fat. The lowest herd gave an average of 336 lbs milk, 4.87 test, and 16.39 lb3 butter fat.
