The installation of the Mayorelect, Mr W. W. McCardK will take place on the Barough Council Chambers to-morrow evening. Mr D, Crewe has been nominated for the vacant seat on the Council. The annual social in aid of the funds of St. Peter's Church is to be held on Wednesday, May 25th. An energetic ladies' committee has the arrangements well in hand. Miss Allen, the organist of the church will have charge of the musical
arrangements. c A football match will be played to* j morrow afternoon, between teams <• representing the Boy Scouts and the , District High School. Also, Pahiatua 1 juniors are playing Mangatainoka j juniors at Mangatainoka. i At the committee meeting of the , Pahiatua Amateur Dramatic Club. , held last night,, it was decided to 1 stage the play "Our Boys." Marley's i Buildings where rehearsals will be held, has been engaged. ; COMMERCIAL. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co,. Ltd., report having held their weekly sale in the P.F.A. yards yesterday:—We submitted a fair yarding of sheep and cattle to a good attendance of buyers and farmers. Sheep did not meet with a spirited demand, bidding \ was slow, and prices were in the buyers' favour. Cattle, however, sold freely, at late rates. We have to report a total clearance at the following prices:—Lambs, ss, 6" to bs; fm. ewes, in lamb, to 8s 6d; wethers, 12s 6d to 13a. Cattle.— Eighteen month steers, £2 12s 6d; 2yr steers. £4 Is; 3 to 3yr steers, £5 Is to £5 7s 6d; atore cows, £3 2s to £3 lis; fat cows, £3 10a to £4 17s 6d; dairy cow 3, £3 9s to £4 10&; weaners, 25s to 30s; bullocks, £3 lis. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having held their usual sale in the Pahiatua Farmers yards on Tuesday, 3rd May. They report:—We had a good yarding of sheep well above advertised numbers and fair yarding only of cattle. Although bidding was not brisk we can report a total clearance oi all stock brought ] forward. Quotations as' follows: Wethers, 12s to 12a sd; lambs, 7s 2d | to 8s 6d; small lambs, 4s 7d to sa: fm. ewes in lamb, 5s Bd, 6s 2d to 8s 6d. Cattle: Forward cows £2 16s to £3 as; old cows, 345: cows in ' profit and in calf, £2 10s to £3 ss; hefers in calf, £4 to £4 ss. Our next sale will be held next Tuesday Mangahao yards, when we will offer a good yarding of both cattle and Bheep. Msssrs Anraham and Willams. Ltd. report on to-day's stock sale as fallows:—We offered a good yardng of both sheep and cattle to a fair attendance of buyers, and quitted practically the whole yarding. Owing to the poof quality of sheep yarded, the prices realised were consequently not as good as at recent sales. Cattle sJd well, arid prices realised fully up to late market rates. We quote:—Ewes in lamb, to Blackface rams, 9s; s.m. ewes in lamb, 6s to'Bs 6d; 2-tooth pwes in lamb, 9s 4d; wethers up to 12s 9d; culled lambs, mixed sexes to 4d 4d; others up to 8s 4d; ewe lambs to 8s 4d. Cattle:—Weaners 28s to 355; weaner heifers £2 to £2 16s; " empty cows, £2 lis, £3 to £4 3s; ! bulls, £3 3s to £4 ss; store cows, £2 ' 17s to £3 2s 6d; forward bullocks, 1 £4 5s to £5 16s; cows in milk to £4.
