The joint conference of Manchester operatives asked that 5 per cent, re-
duction in wages be postponed for a ,year, the operatives undertaking not to apply for an advance. The masters made a counter offer, which the operatives declined. It is expected that the masters will issue a month's notice.' or crete a lock-out unless the reduction is accepted.
