,Mr W. Zabell, of Belvedere, was the victim of a painful accident on Saturday. He was harnessing a horse which is in the habit of biting ta the reins, and made its usual nip on Saturday, but instead of catching the rein causht the thum of Mr.ZabeU's right hand. The nail was almost completely torn off, and the digit badly damaged. Mr F. Court, of Waihakeke, has grown this season a pumpkin weighing 10?lbs, which is probably a record for the Wairarapa. Mr A. Armstrong, who was reelected unopposed as Mayor, will be installed on Wednesday evening. A one man coupling event was run the other evening by the local Fire Brigade for a trophy presented by Messrs Veitch and Allan. Mr N. McKenzie was the winner from scratch, his time being 40 4-ssec, including a lsec penalty. Mr C. Lee, 3sec handicap, 43 2-ssec, including aec penalty, was second. A football match between the Hikurangi College and Clarevilie School boys, on Saturday, ended in draw. Mr J. M. Beechey was referee
