WAIRARAPA CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.
A meeting of Directors of the Caledonian Society was held in the Dominion Hall, on Saturday last,, there being present: —Messrs E. E. Chamberlain, President (in the chair). G. Heron, J. B. McKenzie, A. McLeod, J. H. Pauling, W, Sellar, G. R. Sykes, Gordon Stewart, E. B. Waddington and T. Wyetb. The Secretary submitted a statement of receipts and expenditure in connection with sports and concert, showing on the sport account —receipts £IBB 5s 6d, expenditure £306 163 3d, debit balance £llß 10s 9d; and on the concert account receipts £4o 123 6d, expenditure £47 13s 9d, debit balanca £1 Is 31 The President's report stated, inter alia, that there Had been a serious falling off in the principal sources of revenue. As was the case last year the main contributing feature of the defection was a lack of public suppart The receipts from gates and grandstands alone show a decrease of £45 17s. In two years gate and grandstand receipts have suffered a reduction from £207 to £122 7s 6d, a difference nf £B4 12s 6d. The sale of privileges also showed a difference of £lB 18s 6d on last year's figures, while entrance fees were £22 2s 63 les3. There was a shortage this year of £B6 12s Pd on four item?. Then again sports expenditure totalled £306 i6s 3d, as against £373 8s 53, and against £373 8s 5d and £3Bl 15s 7d for 1908 and 1909, respectively. Timely revision of the prize list saved a further .debit of £6SJ In regard to the concert account there was also evident some want of public support. Against accounts still unpaid there was a cash credit balance of £l7 9s Id, and good outstanding members' subscriptions of £B3. If the latter were paid there would be no necessity to draw on their fixed deposit uf £3OO. In conclusion the President suggested that horse events be included in future programmes as a more than probable means of increasing entrance fees, besides providing a splendid public attraction, this at any rate bad been the experience at bath the Kopuaranga and Gladstone sports meetings. On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr Pauling, the rsport and statement, after considerable discussion as to the causes leading up to the decreased receipts, were adopted. Many reasons were adduced, chief among them being unsatisfactory train arrangements, and the fact that New Year's Day fell on a Saturday -admittedly a bad day for a holiday, j and perhaps the worst possible night | for the week for a concert.
The following Committee was appointed to make arrangements for an Ingleside under the auspices of the Society:—Messrs E. E. Chamberlain, J. B. Pauling. E. B. Waddington, G. K. Sykes, W. Sellar, J. B. McKenzie and G. Stewart. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr McKenize, seconded by Mr Pauling, to~register the Society under the "Unclassified Societies' Act.''
