MOTOR CAR ACCIDENT.
MESSRS W. C. BUCHANAN AND J. D. CRUICKSHANK INJURED. A motor car accident occurred last evening on the Taueru road, which unfortunately, was attended with rather serious consequences. Mr W. C. Buchanan, M.P., accompanied by Mr J. D. Cruickshank, of Masterton, was returning from the wedding at Kahumingi, when in negotiating the Masterton approach to the bridge over the Taueru river at Taueru, the brakes of the car refused to act, with the result that the car was preoipitated over a very steep embankment. Both occupants were thrown out, the cur rolling on top of them. A number of Taueru residents, who were near the bridge at the time, were quickly on the scene of ard extricated the unfortunate men from their painful position. By a fortunate coincidence Dr. W. H. Hoskine, who was motoring some distance behind Mr Buchanan's car, was soon at the place of the accident, and was able to attend to the sufferers. On examination it was found that Mr i Buchanan had sustained serious injuries to his left thigh, an eightinch spike having run right through it, picking up the tendon and almost tearing it out, while his left shoulder was dislocated. Mr Cruickshank, who besides being severely knocked about, was found to have his left shoulder dislocated.
Two motor cars were secured from Kahumingi, and Dr. Archer Hosking, who arrived on the scene shortly after, had the two gentlemen conveyed to the private hospital in Sussex street.
On enquiry at a late hour last evening both gentlemen were progressing as favourably as could be expected under the circumstances.
