(Own Correspondent). Thursday. j Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., re port on their clearing sale held on account of Mr P. J. Quirk as follows: —We had a fair attendance of buyers, Wairarapa and the whole of the Bush Districts being represented. The quahty of the catWe offered was beyond'dispute, and considering the season of year prices obtained were eminently satisfactory. The whole of the cows and heifers submitted averaged £7, bulls from 5| to bgns, horses from £5. Furniture and other sundries brought satisfactory prices. i Mr P. E. Debreceny, auctioneer, l*of this town, while proceeding to Pongaroa, met with an accident, which fortunately was not serious. 'The axle of one wheel snapped and the occupants of the buggy were 'thrown out. Mr Debreceny proceeded on his journey on horseback. Six entries were received for the •competition held by the Fire Brigade last night, under the following conditions :—Competitors had to run 25 yards to a plug, fix a hydrant, run out 50 feet of hosa, connect the union and two 50 feet length of hose, then run them out and fix branches, afterwards strike the bell 50 yards further on--Stokes was first, lrnin Usee; Munns second, lmin 14 2-ssec; Parkes third, lmin 154se«\ The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report on their Makuri sale to-day as follows: —We yarded up to two thousand sheeep, and have to nport a total clearance with the exception of two pens. Prices were fully maintained at late rates, and were as follows— Two-tooth ewes, 10s 2d to 10s fld; other ewes, 6s lOd, 7s 7d, 9s 3d; two tooth wethers, lis Id; lambs 5s to 6s lOd; rams, 2s 6d to l|£na. Cattle: Weaners, steers, £2 5s <6d; store cows, £3 to £3 10s.
