Canterbury resulted in a draw. When stumps were drawn the Australians required 34 to wiTT, with two wickets to fall.
Play was continued by mutual consent till 6.15 p.m. After lunch there was a prospect of seeing the Australians facing total of 340 with to get them in. An exciting hour followed, in which some of the cream of the Australian batsmen were mowed down for the small score of five for 39. Then followed a magnificent display of batting, which was uphill all ; the way. The Australian skipper's I feat of playing throughout the after- J noon in the face of such odds will long be remembered, and must be voted one of the soundest innings everjplayed in a big match here.
