RACKING. WHAKATAKI RACES. (Own Correspondent.) The Whakataki races, held on the beach on Saturday, were well patron • ised by the residents of the district, the Wairarapa sporting public also being present in good force. • Excellent fields faced the barrier, and close finishes were the order of the day, noticeably so in the Castiepoint Cup, the Masterton owned Golden Butterfly being the first to pass the judge. The stewards, assisted by the joint secretaries, Messrs A. B. Nicholls and A. T. Hancock, had all arrangements for an enjoyable gathering complete, and in no small measure was the success of Ihe meeting due to their efforts. The resuits were— Maiden Handicap. -A. A. Roosevelt did steady work. He has had an, easy time since Taranaki.
