The disaster to a French detachment at Abeshr, in the Wadat State, Soudan, 110 officers and men being killed by the troops of the Sultan of Massalot, was debated in the French Chamber of Deputies. The captain who commanded the expedition, and who was among the killed, was blamed for exceeding his instructions by occupying desert territory. The Government restricts French occupation to Abeshr.
