ST. JOHN AMBULANCE BAZAAR.

The St. John Ambulance Bazaar, in aid of the District Nurse Fund, was brought to a close last Saturday evening. The results are eminently satisiactory, inasmuch that the sum required seems to be in. view. The takings at the Drill and Town Halls ior the week are as follows:—Monday, £29 Os 9d; Tuesday, £39 lis Id: Wednesday, £79 10s 2d; Thursday, £35 lis sd; Friday, £39 lis Id- Saturday, £B3 10s lOd, making a total of £306 15s 4dc It will be seen from the above figures that Saturday evening's takings were the best, and for a considerable time the attendance was such as to be almost Inconvenient. About an hour before closing time, the sweet's stall displayed a card with "Sold out" written on it, a state of affairs which must indeed have been gratifying to those in charge of the stall. The other stalls', also, succeeded in disposing of the great bulk of the goods offered, and the stallholders are to be congratulated on the energetic manner in which they attended to their duties in what may be aptly termed a noble cause. In addition to the sum mentioned previously, there is nearly £IOO to come in from various sources, and a credit of nearly £SO was in keeping before the bazaar started. It is thus expected that the sum which it was desired to raise, viz., £4OO, will, after paying expenses, be available. This is no doubt an exceedingly pleasing result to one and all who have been connected with the bazaar. A word of praiße is due to the Secretary, Mr W. Gillespie, and his assistant, Mr B Pragnell, to whom much of the success of the bazaar is due. Following are the results ot the competitions:—Club swinging, Emily Barnett. Singing, J. Elder 1, B. Henderson when " unsealed was found to have stopped at 22i minutes to 7, and although no one guessed the correct time, Mrs P. Cotter and Mr W. Urystall tied for first place, their time being 25 to 7, while four others put down 6.30.
