GRANTS TO SUFFERERS.

The Bank of France will advance £4,00,000 free of interest, and repayable in five years, for grants to flooi sufferers.
The Government proposes to make to small tradesmen loans not exceeding £2OO, frea of interest.
Fourteen thoufand houses in Paris out of eiehty-five thousand have been affected by the floods.

A NECESSARY RESIGNATION

Reference was made at the meeting of the Hawke's Bay Charitable Aid Board to-day, in the matter of one of the member?, having supplied the Board with goof's of value over the statutory amount. The chairman, Mr C. H. (Jranby, made a statement on the subject, in the course of which he emphatically denied that he was aware of the transaction, giving dates to show that he was away at the time. Mr A. E. Eagleton, the member in question, forwarded his resignation, which was accepted.
