THEIR FIRST VICTORY
WON BY SIX WICKETS
By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, February 14. There was fine weather for the resumption of the play in the match Australia v. Wellington this afterDoon. The wicket was also iilicapital run-getting order, and about 1,200 spectators were present Wanting 166 to achieve victory, the visitors accomplished the task for the loss of four wickets The margin would have been much smaller had chances offered by Dodds, Bardsley and Smith been accepted. The batting was somewhat disappointing, the spectators articipating more forceful tactics. Simpson gave the liveliest display, and Bardsley executed some sweet strokes, his on drive being artistically Dodds and Mayne shaped well at intervals. The local captain made a mistake of ringing on his bowling changes tou quickly before the bowlers had time to acquire an accurate length. The ground fielding was fair, but the catching was open to great improvement. Mahoney was a brilliant exception, his catch which disposed of Simpson right on the ropes raising a great hand-clapping.
