APPEALS FOR ASSISTANCE

SUFFERERS' TALES.

United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright. Received January 20, 10.32 a.m. SYDNEY, January 20. The executive of the Public Disasters Relief Fund is appealing for assistance for sufferers by the floods. As the waters subside outside settlers are arriving in the townships in a half-starved condition, after spending a couple of days in trees or on the roofs of houses. Not the least uncomfortable part of the settlers' experiences was having to share their rest-ing-places with hosts of snakes, spiders, and other creeping things. A man at Boggabi hauled his wife and family up a tree, where they remained, secured by ropes, for a day and a night without food. It is estimated th-U the losses in the Boggabri district amount to £40,000. Patients in the N .rc.bri Hospital had an uncomfortable 'time. The water reached a depth of four feet. The wardsmen extemparised raised beds, and the nurses bad to wade round up to their waists attending to the sick. At Invereil the floods carried a horse into the fork of a tree. On the tree being cut down the animal walked away uninjured. Latest reports from Wee Waa state that the water has fallen four feet. The body of one of the victims of the boating disaster has been recovered. There is much distress among the homeless people. Relief noats have beensent The postal services in the flooded areas are at a standstill. Received January 21, 1.5 a.m. SYDNEY, January 20. Telegraphic communication is being rapidly restored in the flooded disrticts.
