THE SWIMMING CARNIVAL.

VERY ENCOURAGING PROSPECTS.

A NEW ZEALAND CHAMPION ' COMPETING.

A largely attended meeting of the Wairarapa Amateur Swimming Club was held last evening to complete final arrangements for the monster Club Carnival to be held m the Park Lake on Monday (Anniversary Day). Mr E. R. B. Daniel (Club Captain) occupied the chair. A letter was read from R. Heaiy, the champion swimmer, who resides at Wellington, in which he stated that he was competing in all events for which he was eligible. A private letter was read, which stated that Healy had been in hard training for some time past, and he was likely to show his best form at Masterton. The meeting expressed keen satisfaction at this information. In offering to provide a miniature naval engagement as an attraction, Messrs Hanna and Baker, two wellknown Wellington swimmers, stated that the exhibition had proved a wonderful draw in Wellington, and it would doubtless be so at Masterton. The meeting was notified that a large consignment of flags and bunting bad been procured free of charge from the Public Works Department, in Wellington, through the representat:onsof Mr A. W. Hogg/M. P. The meeting passed a hearty vote of thanks to both Mr Hogg and the Minister (Hon. R. McKenzie). It was reported that an enthusiastic ladies' committee had the catering arrangements well in hand and the public would be provided with light refreshments at a moat reasonable charge. The sub-committees reported that all the appointments were in complete order. The numerous attractions to be provided were stated to be arranged for on most satisfactory terms, officials being duly appointed to carry them on. It was decided to allow the Carlton Cricket Club to have the free use of the Oval on [the day of the Carnival, when this Club will play a match with Wellington East, and to issue admission tickets to both Clubs. A number of leading Wellington swimmers intimated their intention to be present. The committee decided to extend to them a hearty welcome.
