The men were under the impreSß'on that the Itaroo's coal had been worked by non-unionist miners. The steamers Moresby and MaalHna are to be recommissioned for the Island service if sufficient coal can be obtained to permit them to resume running. The coal exported from Newcastle last year was 1,443,000 tons less than in the previous year. General trade was also badly affected by the strike, the revenue collected at the Customs House snowing a falling off of .£14,932.

DURHAM MINERS RETURNING TO WORK.

Received January 20, 8.45 a.m. LONDON, January 19. Three-fourths of the Durham miners, who recently ceased work owing to triction over the working of the Eight Hours Act, are now working. It is expected that the dissatisfaction on the eight hours question will be remedied through the usual channels. The executive ot the Northumberland Miners' Association has decided to pay lock-out relief this week, despite the difference with the members.
