MUNICIPAL REFORM.
While our municipal Government is for the most part free from the taint pf Tammanyism, there have been faiany instances to prove that the present system produces very inferior results, says the Christchurch "News." There could be an extension of the principle of executive rather than popular control to the great advantage of cities like Christchurch, and commissioners of tramways, water supply and sewage, fire prevention and building construction, public domains, etc., answerable to a Board elected by the ratepayers, could effect economies and administer the affairs of the city with an efficiency that is quite unattainable at present.
