SURVEYING THE COAST.

No country can be termed civilised which does not know its own coastal waters, for it exposes life and property to risks which are wholly unnecessary and entirely avoidable. Mr Millar should have the strong support of all sections in any practical proposal he may make for a complete coastal survey, and no short-sighted parsimony—veiled as economy—should interfere with the prosecution of such a truly Rational work.
