SOCIALISM IN JAPAN.
[ At present Socialism in Japan seems |tobe at a very low ebb. Anarchy is raising its head; there is a wide diversity of tastes and views among the members of the various groups; and there is no one of commanding ability to harmonise the discordant element. On the outskirts of the party, moreover, the young people who had been attracted by its teaching are becoming cool. They thought to get some satisfaction in this new teaching for their mental and spiritual unrest; but finding socialism I too materialistic, they are turning to religion and mysticism o£ various ■ kinds. And finally, the all-powerful , and übiquitous authorities are the determined enemies of anything that seema to threaten to diisturb the present social order.
