GREYTOWN NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent).
Monday. At the S.M. Court on Monday morning a man named W. Byrne was charged before Messrs J. D. Heagerty and D. O'Connor, J.P.'s, with theft from the residence of Dr. Bey, of a jug of milk and one piece of cake, to the value of one shilling, on Saturday morning. The accused was also charged with drunkenness in West street. He pleaded guilty to both charges, and was sentenced to seven days* imprisonment on the charge of theft. The other charge was dismissed. Two rinks left Greytown on Saturday afternoon to take part in the Bowling Tournament, which is being held in Wellington on the 10th, 11th and 12th. Keen interest is being taken in the game here this season, and the number of new members joining is very encouraging. I understand that a subscription list is being circulated among the residents towards assisting in getting a track over the Tararua ranges to Otaki. During the past week various patrols of the boys scouts have been in camp in different paddocks near J the township, arid with their tents |
pitched under a clump of trees the scouts gather of an evening round the camp fire. One night last week when the boys had retired for the night a number of lads attacked the camp and quite a skirmidh took place. The scout's with their poles beat off the intruders, who were armed with sticks and palibgs.
