RAILWAY TRAFFIC.
By Telegraph —Press Association, AUCKLAND. January 4. The Minister for Railways, the Hon. J. A. Millar, who is at present in Auckland, states that though figures are not yet available, the holiday traffic on the railways during the Christmas and New Year holidays has been greater than during: the corresponding period last year. Mr Miliar anticipates that the revised railway charges, which will come into operation on 9th January —the end of the four-weekly period —may have the effect of causing a temporary decrease in the number travelling, but the increased rates on long distances will swell tne revenue to the estimate previously given.
