FUNERAL OF COLONEL GORTON.

MARION January 2. The funeral of Colonel Gorton attracted a - large attendance from all the West Coast to Bulls to-day. There were' wreaths and messages of condolence from all over New Zealand, including one from his Excellency and one from-the Prime Minister. His Excellency was represented by Captain Hardy, and the Ministry by the Hon. J as. Carroll. A detachment of Permanent Artillery, under Major fiume, formed a guard of honour, and bore the body on a gun carriage to the cemetery at Greatford. The Feilding Rifles, Rangitikei Royals (the okest corps in New Zealand), and other corps participated, headed by the Marton Band, playing the Dead March. A long line of carriages, motors, and horsemen extended' practically the wnole of two miles form the house to Greatford Cemetery.
