(From Our Resident Reporer). Tuesday. Death claimed another of Garterton's old residents on Christmas Day in the person of Mr George Grantham. The deceased, who was well advanced in years, was in younger days a carpenter by trade, and was one who helped to build the business places of this district. For some conS siderable time he had spent a retired life, and of late he had become very feeble. He passed peacefully away at the South Wairarapa Hospital. He leaves a widow and grown-up family. It has been decided by the shopkeepers of Carterton to observe Monday next as a holiday. Special services were held in St. Mark's Church on Christmas Day, the Rev. R. Young, Vicar, officiating. The congregations were not large on account of ihe boisterous weather, but there were large congregations present on Sunday. The interior of the Church was tastefully decorated. Turley, of this town, was bolemnised in St. Mark's Church yesterday, in the presence of a number of friendsjjand relatives. The Rev. R. Young tied the nuptial knot, and the honeymoon is being spent in Napier. Mr and Mrs Turley will reside in Martinborough. MrC. A. C. Opie has been ap> pointed engineer to the South Wairarapa County Council. He at present holds a similar appointment under the Mount Herbert County Council. Yesterday the Methodist Sunday School held its annual picnic on the grounds in Moreton road, lent for the occasion by Mr Henson. The weather being fine there was a good attendance, and a very pleasant outing was spent.
