He proposes taking Artist and Fogwell as trainers. The £SOO wager with Barry laid down under the regulations for the challenge of the championship he enforces, as he considers it the world's championship race.

By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, December 13. The following is the Rev. D. C. Bates' summary and forecast:—Moderate to strong westerly winds have prevailed and light rains have fallen to-day in most parts south of New Plymouth and Napier. The lowest pressure is now reported about Kaikoura with a depression of small intensity moving to the eastwatd. The prs-ent indications arefor a temporary rise in the barometer, being followed by another low pressure in the South Moderate to strong westerly wind* will prevail in tbe North, and southerlies change by the west 'to north and incr.aie in th> sou!h Unsettled and cloudy weather prob ible everywhere.
