NAVAL SECRETARY'S REPORT.

Mr Meyer, the Secretary of the United States Navy, in his naval report insists Ofi the necessity of officers having shop training in naval yards in order that the United States fleet may, as far as possible, be selfsustaining. The senior officers were too old for the responsibilities of ard)us duty required on modern battleships, and have insufficient txperience as subordinate flag officers. The Department is considering a comprehensive re-organisaton of the personnel of the Navy. Fur!her repair stations wiil be required in the Carribean Sea and Pacific when the Panama Canal is completed. Owing to the necessity of economy new constructon will be limited to two battleships.
A BONDI TRAGEDY
Received December 9, 10.35 p.m. SYDNEY, December 9. The dead bodies ot a man and woman were found in the bush at Bondi. There are indications that the man shut the woman and then himself. Recuved December 10, 12.25 a.m. SYDNEY, December 9. The bodies found at Bondi have been identified as those )of a man named a member of an Austrian family resident in Sydney, and a married woman named Annie Sutherland. Jealousy is supposed to have beer, the cause of the deed.
THE WARATAH.
Received LONDON, December 9. Lloyd's has decided to post the Waratah for inquiry, and unless information is forthcoming earlier she will be posted as missing on the 15th. The Underwriters' will settle claims on the hulk and cargo on the 22nd.
