MASTERTON HOMING PIGEON CLUB.
The Masterton Homing Pigeon Club held a race yesterday fru m Taumaranui. • The birds were iridly liberated by Mr Harrison, station master at Taumaranui, at 10 o'clock. The first birds clocked in at 2.25 p.m., negotiating the distance, 144 miles (airline), in 4 hours 23 mintes. The winning bird is Mr H. F. Billington's "Optician" the winner of last year's Young Bird Championship. There were only about five birds to arrive within the first hour, the weather being adver.se to a high velocity. The official result ib as follows:—Mr H. F. Billington's "Optician,", r.c.'hen, velocity 972.6 yds per minute, 1; Mr H. Wilton's "Twinkle," b.c.c, velocity 967.4 yds per minute, 2; Mr J. A. Syverston's "Ironsides," b.c.c, velocity 966.6 yds rer minute, 3; Mr J. Winchester's Royal Exchange," r.c.c, 933.yds per minute, 4. Mr E. H. Richnrds acted as judge in a very competent manner.
