PAHIATUA NEWS.
(From Oar Resident Reporter) ■ Thursday.. 1 Mr W. Norrell, who recently went to Te Aroha to reside, writing to Mr J. A. Walsh, of this town, state 3 that it is very difficult to get a house in Te Aroha. Mr Norrell states that a good deal of land is changing hands about Te Aroha, several ot the buyers coming from the South Wairarapa and Taranaki. f The Woodville Volunteers contemplate holding a smoke concert shortly. The grandstand recently erected on the Wocdville Recreation Ground, besidesHbeing"""an ornament to the
ground, is a very convenient structure, being fitted up with lavatories, etc. The awirnming baths, which are also in this ground, have been improved this year, and the ground is a credit to the town. Fcuntaine Square is also well kept.
The team of Pahiatua bowlers, ■who challenged the feather holders the other day, were successful in defeating the holders, and I understand that several teams intend to try their luck, so no doubt the green will be very busy for some time.
The alteration to the railway lim<tabh comes inti lor-- >v\ Mnr.day next, 6th inst, and the residents between Pahiatua and [Masterton are not by any means satisfied with the new arrangements.
During' the month of N ovcmber there were 8 births 2, deaths and 3
marriages in Pahiatua. Mr Peter Tulluck, land agent, reports the sale of Mr N. Rosenbeck's 202 acres of freehold property at 'Hukanui, together with all the dairy stock, etc., as a goine concern, to Mr W. J. Smith, of Lower Hutt. There is every indication that the farewell social to Mr and Mrs F.

Mr 0. Hoist, of Eketahuna, has been appointed secretary to the 'anganui Dairy Association. A very pleasant afternoon was spent at the Pahiatua District] High School yesterday, when the members of the school committee and their wives and friends met at the invitation of the teaching staff, to view* the beautifying work recently carried out at the school grounds. The grounds were laid out by Mr Eddie, of Maneahao, and the work of planting, etc , was supervised by Mr Thomas, headmaster. The punga fence mentioned in a previous issue was much admired by those present. The Wimbledon Rifle Club will open the season on December 11th inst.
On Tuesday last, at Woodville, MiMichael Pendergast was married to Miss Mary Herlihy, the only daughter of Mrs Herlihy, of Papatawa.
. A masquerade ball to celebrate the opening of the enlargement to the Mangatainoka Library Hall, was held last evening. There was a good attendance, and a very pleasant evening was spent, good music being supplied by Messrs C. and B. Mills. Mr C. de Malmanche made a capable M.C. The arrangements were well carried out by a strong ladies' committee, who are deserving of a special word of praise for their efforts.
