LONDON MARKETS.
Received LONDON, November 21. Following are the quotations for frozen meat at the Smilhfield market:— Sheep: Canterbury, light £d per lb, medium 4|d, heavy 4d; Southland, unchanged; North Island, a 15-16 d. Lambs: Canterbury, light 4H medium 3 15 16d, heavy 3ld; Southland, and North Island unchanged. Beef: Fores 3d, hinds 3 5-16 d. Australian sheep, heavy 3 7-16 d, light 3Jd;, beef, fores 3d, hinds 3Jd. River Plate sheen unchanged; beef, fores 3d, hinds 3 5-16 d.
HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT.
The Commerce and Tourists' Division has received the following cable message from the High Commissioner, dated London, 20th November, 1909: The mutton market is slightly easier with le?s demand, and market may decline further. Canterbury is quoted at 4d per lh and North Island at 3|d. The lamb market is weaker, with a downward tendency. There is a dull sale for all lamb, and holders are anxious to sell. Canterbury is quoted at 4&d, and other New Zealand at 31d.
The beef market is dull and stock is heavy. New Zealand hinds are quoted at 3§d and fores at 3|d. The butter market is firm, with an improved demand for quality. Holders are firm. The s.s. Arawa butter arrived in good condition. New Zealand choicest butter 120s per cwt., Australian 110s, Danish 1325, Argentine 118s, Siberian 110s. The cheese market is stead p, and a fair business is doing in best quality at 573 psr cwt. for New Zealand. Dull for second-class quality.
The hemp market is steady, and a frn'r businefs is doing. Pro3pects are improving. New Zealand good fair grade, on spot, £27 10s per ton; New Zealsnl fair Erade, £26 10s; fair current Manila, £27. JanuaryMarch shipments—New Zeahnd good fair grade, £27; New Zealand fair grade, £26; fair current Manila, £26 10s. Manila output, 24,000 bales. The cocksfoot seed market is quiet. There is a better demand. Average price for bright clean 171b New Zealand seed, 71s per cwt. The wheat market is quiet but firm There is a small quantity of New Zealand, and holders are firm. New Zealand long berried wheat, on spot, ex granary, per quarter of 4961b, 395; New Zealand short-herried, 38s 6d.
Oats.—The market is firm, with an improved demand. New Zealand oats are scarce. New Zealand short oats, sparrowbills, ex granary, on spat per quarter of 3841b, 20s 6d; New Zealand oats, Danish, per qaarter of 3201b, 17s 3d. The beans market is firm. Mew Zealand beans, f.a.q., new crop, per 5041b, 395. The peas market remains firm, with a good demand. New Zealand peas, partridge, per 5041b, 50s. The hop market is firm, owing to reduced supplies. Demand is expected to increase, and future piospects are good. Recent New Zealand shipments depreciated by tight pressing, realised 1153, English 150s, California 140s. The wool market is firmer.
