EXTRAORDINARY OUTRAGE.
LADY ROBBED IN AUCKLAND,

AUCKLAND, October 30. An extraordinary case of robbery with violence occurred last night A laiy who came from Fiji to undergo a serious operation was placed in a cab in Queen street by a doctor, who instructed the man whojumped on the box and assumed the driver's seat to drive the lady to a private hospital. The driver, instead of taking the lady there drove in the direction of Onehunga. The lady protested to the man that she was being carried beyond her destination, whereupon, she alleges, he left his seat, struck her and stole her gold rings, jewellery and a considerable sum of money. The doctor subsequently proceeded to the private hospital to see his patient Finding she was not there he' communicated with the police. Six constables were detailed to search for the lady. She was found by the Onehunga police and sent to the private hospital. She was suffering considerably from shock. The cab was found in Queen street again, but the driver had disappeared. The real owner, it is stated, was having his tea when a man known to the police assumed the role of driver. So far he has not been arrested.
